Sustainable Design

We are committed to understand the impact the built environment has on the wider community and quality of life. By understanding and reducing the environmental impact of construction, design decisions can offer savings and value to both clients and the community. Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) begins at the commencement of the design process.

Early decisions can have a critical impact on final performance. ESD takes consideration of the whole building and its context including materials. Energy and water use, spatial quality and health, land use, transport and emissions are all given consideration in the early stages of design.
Williams Architects have extensive experience in commercial design and have the ability to quickly evaluate ESD options and their benefits on the overall project.

We are members of the NZ Green Building Council and key staff are Accredited NZGB professionals. Our practice is involved in developing the industrial rating tools for the NZGBC.
We are able to manage the application for the Green Star design process and apply for ratings. Our 3D design model can be used to optimise ESD features through the use of solar studies and energy modelling when required.

We are proud to announce that our recently constructed project Ceres Organics has attained a 5 star rating from the NZGBC, demonstrating New Zealand excellence for its environmental merits – the first industrial building in New Zealand to attain such rating.
